Sanded Grout or Unsanded Grout?

When do I use a sanded grout or an unsanded grout?

Use sanded grout for most jobs. It can be used for grout joints of 1/16" or wider. It contains sand, which strengthens the grout joints and helps resist cracks and shrinking. It has a coarser texture than unsanded grout.

Unsanded grout is used for joints which are 1/8" or narrower. It is recommended for soft marble, polished marble, other types of soft stone, some polished stone, and soft glazed tiles. Unsanded grout has a smooth texture, is commonly used in ceramic-tile installations and clings firmly to vertical surfaces.

Refer to the tile manufacturer's information if you're not sure of which kind of grout is recommended for your tiles.
